Others Advise It.

Many people get into investments, businesses, or other ventures simply because someone else advises them to do so. They don’t have any clear personal plans or goals. Most have neither short-range nor long-range plans. If God supplied them an abundance, they would not really have a plan for sharing, re-investing, or saving. They simply commit their resources to some program because somebody else thinks it is a good idea. Usually they have little or no knowledge about the use of their money and react to investment fluctuations with anxiety or alarm. What is the proper attitude?

In Proverbs 15:22, God states, “Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed.” Proverbs 18:15 says, “The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge. . . .” Paraphrased this says, “It is the wise man who seeks many counselors.” Christians are advised by God to seek many counselors on everything; with too few counselors, plans go astray.

But, in Ephesians 4:14 Paul expresses the other end of the range: “As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming.”
